Kek Lok Si Temple

Guan Yin Statue in Kek Lok Si Temple Penang. This is one sad place to be.

When i was here 20 years ago it was a lively place with many devotee..now it is like a vacant building. When they started constructed of this temple years ago..the "local" people complaint and claimed that the construction of the Guan Yin is too huge and the shadow from the goddess of mercy actually cover one of the mosque and the original plan have to be abort and the statue end up constructed much more lower than the original intended plan. Then it also receive numerous objection the "local" people there. Years later the Guan Yin Statue start to "dismantle" on its own. The lower part of the statue is slowly falling aparts as some people claim that the GOD have left that place knowing the "local" people do not welcome Guan Yin.

The old Guan Yin Statue being cut in half and left as one of the remaining of the Temple.

The new statue under construction.

aiyah...the part about kuan yin not welcomed, kuan yin falling apart....why must it be blamed on 'local people'???

blame it on poor maintainance.the white kuan yin also caught fire because of a negligent monk who burnt rubbish near the statue..

and may be..kuan yin also want to move out permanently from kek lok si because it has shifted from its original purpose as a spiritual sanctuary to an entertainment villa..much like Haw par villa....???

You captured some really great temple pictures. I saw you took a picture that shows Guan Yu and Guan Yin together. I have never seen that before. Usually Guan Yin and seated on the alter and Guan Yu is seated in a separate alter. Can the two statues be put side by side?
